Roadside memorials

Flower memorialWisDOT and county highway maintenance employees understand the distress and shock people experience when a loved-one is killed in a traffic crash.

We also recognize the need many people have to grieve by placing a memorial within a highway right of way near the crash site.

Memorial guidelines

WisDOT produced a brochure that offers guidelines for placing a memorial on a highway right of way.

Adopt-A-Highway in Memory of a Loved One

Adopting a highway can be a meaningful way to honor the memory of a loved one and give back to the community. Adopt-A-Highway signage states the highway has been adopted in memory of the friend or family member.

Adopt-A-Highway volunteers clean up two-mile highway segments three times a year. Visit the Adopt-A-Highway page to learn more and begin the process.
